The Kwara State government has commenced scrutinising the 2022 budget estimates of local governments in the state.

Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saifuddeen, disclosed this at has said the Budget Review/Defence exercise, held at the Conference Room of his ministry in Ilorin, the state capital.

He told the review session that the annual budget of the local governments in the state was prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 38, Sub-section 3 of the Kwara State Local Government (Miscellaneous Provision) Law, 2006, Cap. L8.

He further stated that it was the oversight function of the ministry to scrutinize the draft budget of kocal government councils, so that all the grey areas in the budget could be addressed.

He added “This budget review exercise would afford us the opportunity to make adequate plans for the smooth running of the councils through the 2022 financial year.”

The commissioner also acsertained that the autonomy of local government councils in the state to administer their affairs was not in doubt, pointing out that the councils however, must ensure that the needs of the grassroots were taken into considerations, while preparing their budget estimates.
