The rise in cases of gender-based violence; such as rape, child abuse, violence against women, child trafficking and other forms of criminal behavior in Kwara State should stop.

Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in the state, Makinde Iskil Ayinla, read this riot act in Ilorin, the state capital, while flagging off a ‘Sensitization Road Show,’ organized by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Illegal Migrant Unit of the Corps.

Ayinla called on residents of the state, especially those within Ilorin metropolis, to stop criminal acts; such as rape and other gender-based violence.

He also specifically appealed to residents of the state, particularly the youth, to shun any disgraceful and criminal act that can drag the good image of the state into the mud.

According to the NSCDC Commandant, “hardly will a day pass without reports of gender-based violence.”

He therefore urged the people to stay away from any criminal act that can land them in trouble, promising that otherwise, “the law will always take its cause.”

Kwara State NSCDC spokesman, Zaid Afolabi, in a statement said that the Corps had partnered with organizations such as International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA; National Human Rights Commission, NHRC; and other human right activists to fight these menace.
