Loitering and wandering during school hours by pupils/students in Kwara State is now a sin and the government is serious about it.
Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hadjia Bisola Ahmed, who made this known in Ilorin at the weekend, said government would longer tolerate the ugly habit.
She warned school heads, managements, parents as well as guardians to ensure that school children were not found on the streets during school hours.
The commissioner had said, “Let me use this medium to inform parents/guardians that the anti-loitering unit in the ministry that is empowered to arrest and detain any pupil/student found loitering during school hours has started going round schools.
“Any student/pupil found wandering will be arrested and sanctioned as appropriate within the laws concerning this.
“Also, parents of culprits will be invited for questioning and necessary actions will be taken.”
While admonishing parents/guardians to ensure that their children/wards do not loiter, but remain within their respective school premises during school hours, Hadjia Ahmed reiterated the resolve of the present Kwara State administration under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazak “not to condone any acts of indiscipline in public schools across the state.”
