The Kebbi State government has distributed science and technical equipment worth ₦140 million to two of its science colleges, in furtherance of efforts to keep abreast with modern technical standard.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, stated that the beneficiary schools are: Government Science and Technical College, Bunza; and Government Science and Technical College, Zuru.

The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Rt. Hon. Hassan Muhammad Shalla, presented the equipment to the principal of Science College Bunza, Mallam Shehu Bagudu, and his Zuru counterpart, Mallam Aliyu Muhammad Kele, at the Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Centre, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday.

Rt. Hon. Gwandu said that Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu gave approval for the procurement of the science equipment after official submission of request to him by the ministry to modernize the workshop of the two science colleges, preparatory to the accreditation visit by the team of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

The commissioner added that the purchase of the modern equipment would also afford unfettered opportunity to students of the two colleges to learn appropriate modern technical skills.

Rt. Hon. Gwandu explained that the items procured were of high quality that could last between five and ten years.

The commissioner also announced that Governor Bagudu has released ₦200 million of the ₦540 million approved for the payment of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE, fees for 30,031 students of secondary schools in the state.

Furthermore, the governor has made available ₦30 million for the purchase of chalk for schools; while ₦160 million has also been approved for the procurement of laboratory equipment for distribution to schools.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education similarly announced that 3,000 pieces of furniture units for classrooms have been delivered to the state, out of the 8,000 units approved by the governor.

Rt. Hon. Shalla said that Senator Bagudu also approved ₦17 million for the refurbishment of vehicles for the inspectorate division of the ministry for effective supervision of schools.

The Director of Science and Technical Education in the ministry, Alhaji Hassan Ibrahim Ngaski, thanked Governor Bagudu for placing premium on the development of the education sector as testified by his prompt approval of infrastructural development and provision of teaching and learning materials to schools.

The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji Nayalwa, and other top officials of the ministry witnessed the presentation of the items.
