The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Saturday’s House of Assembly election for Ikom 1 state constituency of Cross River State, Hon. Henry Njar Nsan, has pledged to provide effective representation to his constituents if given that rare privilege to represent them.
Njar made the pledge whilespeaking in an interactive session with journalists in Calabar yesterday.
He said that with him at the state House of Assembly, he would legislate on laws and issues that would bring succour to the people of his constituency, stressing that a mandate for him is a mandate for effective representation.
He said, “Just test me, and see if what I would offer wouldn’t surpass your expectation. I shall work towards making laws that would positively impact on the people.
“I have the capacity to make input towards the legislation of laws that can turn around the fortunes of many in the constituency. Over the years, laws that add little or no value at all in our daily lives had been made by our former legislators. Six months is enough for you to see a new constituency, in terms of better legislations.
“The wealth of experience gained in the business world, if properly channeled into law making process, I think I can make a difference from the usual ‘I concur,’ as always heard in most floors of legislative Houses, where inputs are hardly made during brainstorming sessions.
“I promise to exhibit high level of responsibility to ensure that good governance reigns for the people of our very dear state.
“I shall engage the leadership of the House on intellectual discussions that would at all times protect the right of the common man in the street, to ensure that justice, peace and equity reigns, nothwitstnding their ethno-religious affiliations.
“Just give me the privilege and see if I won’t make a difference. I assure you of laws that would change our woes to fortunes.
“Am ready to legislate on laws that make life more meaningful to my constituents. Test me and see if I won’t proof my mettle.”
While assurring the people of the constituency of his preparedness towards effective stewardship, Njar stated that he is not going to the House to be like a master, but a servant, calling on all to throw their weight solidly behind him and see if he wouldn’t proof his mettle.
