The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has assured the people of the state of his determination to raise the quality of education, should he emerge winner of the gubernatorial election to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Otu gave the assurance in an interaction with journalists yesterday, when he read his manifesto, titled,: ‘People First Manifestoe’ to journalists at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre Calabar.
The governorship candidate stated that among the policy thrust of his administration when he comes on board shall be raising the quality/standard of education, which he said would be top priority to his administration. This he said is to tackle the high rate of unemployment which had bedeviled our dear nation.
He said, “We will focus on periodic accreditation of schools, the institution of a minimum standard in the establishment of schools.
“Introduction of a school-based management system, strong inspectorate structure, which would provide annual ranking of schools on commonly agreed indices and the involvement of civil society organizations, CSOs, in providing independent reports on the school system.
Giving an insight to build teachers’ capacity, the APC candidate promised to initiate a robust, focused, creative and results-oriented teachers’ training and retraining programme that would produce quality teaching in the new school system.
Apart from quality assurance measure and teachers’ capacity building, other areas which Otu promised to look into includes, out of school children, OTC, those in the tertiary institution, award of scholarship and education grants, technical education, adult and non-formal education.
In the area of providing quality health care delivery system, the APC governorship candidate pledged to make quality health care delivery system affordable to all.
