The Muslim wing of the Oyo State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board has said that it will close collection of the 2023 initial hajj fare from intending pilgrims on March 20, 2023.

Chairman of the board, Professor Sayed Malik, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday.

The board had fixed ₦2.6 million only as the initial deposit for the 2023 Hajj fare by each intending pilgrim in the state.

The statement reads, “Recall that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, recently allocated 1,441 seats to Oyo State for the 2023 Hajj exercise and in view of this, the state’s Pilgrims Welfare Board has fixed the sum of two million, six hundred thousand naira, ₦2.6 million, only as initial deposit for each intending pilgrims pending the announcement of final fare for the exercise by the NAHCON”

Professor Malik therefore called on all intending pilgrims wishing to travel with the board to make sure that they pay the amount into any of the designated bank accounts of the board on or before Monday, March 20 in order not to miss the opportunity.

The Pilgrims’ board chair charge that “those who had earlier deposited less than the ₦2.6 million to quickly top it up with the remaining balance before the deadline.”

Expressing the board’s appreciation to the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his unrelenting support, Malik stated that the board has started putting in place all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the 2023 Hajj is a hitch-free and successful exercise.
