The Independent Natıonal Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Cross River State, Prof. Gabriel Yomere has expressed worry and anger at the shooting of one of the ad-hoc staff for Saturday’s governorship election, Miss Glory Effiom Essien, who was hit by a gun bullet from unidentified gun men,while on her way to Bakassi Local Government Area for election duty.

An eye witness, Mr. Felix (surname withheld), told our correspondent in Calabar that the victim was hit by a stray bullet shot by an unknown gun man, suspected to be militants along the waterway.

He said, “The stray bullet hit her while she was in a speed boat heading towards Bakassi communities for election duty and she slumped.

“The adhoc staff, named Glory Effiom Esien, was shot by a suspected militant when the speed boat which was on motion was hit by gun bullets.

“The bullet hit her from behind while on her way to Bakassi for election duty and she almost became unconscious.”

Confirming and reacting swiftly to the incident, the REC, Prof Yomere, stressed that he is happy that the bullet did not affect the victim’s spinal cord.

Yomere stated that the victim is responding to medical attention given to her by the doctors at the University of Calabar, UCTH.
