…Lauds Women Affairs Ministry For Prompt Intervention
The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has charged the state Governor Seyi Makinde, to continue to support the state Rapid Response Team in rescuing more women and children facing any form of violation.
This is just as the association, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairperson and Secretary, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola and Comrade Stella Oyebanji, respectively, also lauded the prompt and immediate response of the state Ministry of Women Affairs on issues affecting women and welfare of children in the state.
It said, “The honourable Commissioner, Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, and her team, has been doing exceedingly well in standing for women who are being violated by their spouses. We recognise this and would like to thank His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, who made provision for the ministry to carry out their responsibility.
“We use this opportunity to call on the executive governor to continue to give support to the Oyo State Rapid Response Team to rescue more women and children who face any form of violation.
“The ministry has not only been mediating on violence against women, they have equally collaborated with the state Ministry of Health to provide medical services where necessary and unite families back. For us, this is a laudable step in ensuring that women are not thrown out of their marriages but that lingering issues are resolved and the children in such families are not thrown into traumatic situation.”
The association further emphasized its commitment to gender advocacy, saying “it is our desire that children are given the opportunity to grow up in a healthy family devoid of rancour and violence.”
“NAWOJ will also lend our professional support whenever it is required by stakeholders, who are strongly advocating for women and children in the state. Finally, we call on spouses to endeavour to always resolve their differences in a manner that the children will not be traumatized and ensure that children’s right are not being violated for any reason.”
The association then lauded security agencies for their collaboration in ensuring a sane society.
