…Declares Total Support For VC

A pan-Ijumu socio-cultural association, the Ijumu Development Union, IDU, an umbrella body for all sons and daughters of Ijumu kingdom, both home nad in the diaspora has warned self-sponsored fifth columnists, who are hell bent on tarnishing the good name of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, to desist forthwith, as their campaign of calumny will not work.

Expressing sadness at the campaign of calumny against Prof. Akinwunmi, making the rounds in the media space, the IDU, in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Ahmed-Ade Fatai, wondered where the accusations of sexual misbehaviour and drunkenness were coming from, especially when such allegations were neither backed by concrete pictorial or video evidence.

The IDU said that this renders the entire story “meaningless, useless and childish,” insisting that it was a ploy to not only to derail and distract Prof Akinwunmi from his mission and vision for Federal University, Lokoja, but also to tarnish his hard-earned integrity and drag his good name, built over the years by don’t of hard work in the mud.

The IDU therefore used the opportunity of the press statement to call on Prof. Akinwunmi “not be distracted by the ‘barks of the dogs.” When the going is tough, the tough gets going. The building is already on a solid rock. The record are showing that you have fulfilled good percentage of your mission and vision of the university, within the first year in office; and this is a threat to the enemies of progress of the university.”

Ahmed-Ade further reiterated that “Okun people, especially of the Ijumu stock, are solidly behind Prof. Akinwumi,” describing him as “our pride.”

The statement added, “We are proud of him and his numerous achievements so far as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja. No weapon fashioned against him shall prosper. History is in the making.”

The IDU prayed the Almighty God to continue to guide the VC and lead him throughout his tenure.
