The Doctor of Philosophy, PhD, thesis of a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State has been approved for use as a text book in Nigerian tertiary institutions by the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund.

The lecturer, Dr. Sunday Asakpa’s thesis titled: ‘Development of Visual Cryptography System for Ear Biometric Template Security,’ was found to be extremely one of the best Ph.D theses from institutions in Nigeria and abroad.

Dr. Asakpa is of the Computer Science Department of the Offa Polytechnic.

CompassNG gathered that the information was contained in a letter signed by TETFund Acting Director of Education Support Services, Mr. S.K Okunlola, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, notifying the Offa Polytechnic of the decision to convert the Ph.D thesis to a book.

Part of the letter reads, “I am glad to inform you that the thesis of Dr. Asakpa Sunday Ogheneruemu in your Polytechnic has been recommended by the committee for conversion into a book.

“Two thousand, 2,000, copies of the book will be published and distributed free; 1,000 copies to tertiary institutions in Nigeria; while 1,000 copies will also be given to Dr. Asakpa.

“I wish to congratulate Dr. Asakpa and your Polytechnic for this achievement.”

Meanwhile, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr. Lateef Olatunji, has on behalf of his management, staff and students applauded Dr. Asakpa for this feat, describing his achievement as a rare feat and a pride of the institution.

Encouraging staff and students of the Polytechnic to continue with what he described as legacy built on academic excellence, of Dr. Olatunji promised that the school’s management would not relent in creating enabling environment for research and development.
