Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem, who lost out in the governership primary election of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kwara State ealier this month, has picked the gubernatorial ticket of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, to run for Kwara State governorship in the 2023 general election.

Professor AbdulRaheem was adopted by the NNPP as it’s gubernatorial candidate in Kwara State for the 2023 general election.

Kwara State Chairman of the party, AbdulRazaq Abdulsalam, made this development known in Ilorin shortly after a reported meeting of the NNPP stakeholders with AbdulRaheem.

Abdulsalam, in his announcement, said, “We have picked Prof Oba Shuaib AbdulRaheem as our governorship candidate. He’s now a full fledged member of NNPP.”

He disclosed that Professor AbdulRaheem would immediately be attending meetings of all the NNPP gubernatorial candidates sheduled to hold in Abuja today, Tuesday.

In his remarks, the erstwhile university chief executive and now the NNPP gubernatorial candidate in Kwara State, declared that he had fully joined the party and expressed his “preparedness to join hands with other eminent Nigerians and Kwarans to take the party to a greater height.”

Meanwhile, the candidate of the party for Kwara North senatorial district, Dr. Kolo Jiya, has vowed that the NNPP would form the next government in Kwara State, come 2023.

He expressed the unshakable confidence in the ability of Professor AbdulRaheem to lead the party to victory in the coming elections and as well return Kwara State to the path of progress and greatness.

Kolo disclosed that a more elaborate event would be held where the party’s gubernatorial candidate would be presented to the general public.
