Former military governor of old Ondo State, comprising of the present Ondo and Ekiti states, Chief Olabode George, has said that Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains indicted over the massacre of armless youths mowed down by ‘unknown’ soldiers during the October 20, 2020 killing of protesting youths at the infamous Lrkki Toll Gate in Lagos.
In a statement, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, described Governor Sanwoolu’s White Paper on the report of the #EndSARS Panel of Enquiry it set up as “outlandish, defeatist, insensitive, lacking the basic tenet of accountability and decency, which ought to have guided such sensitive issue as the Lekki tragedy.”
George added, Sanwo-Olu’s response is without justice or fairness. It is at best, plastic and gestural, devoid of genuine human concern and sincere leadership.”
The Atona Oodua of Yorubaland insisted that the Lagos state government stands indicted for the unfortunate incident, adding that “Sanwoolu perhaps may be able to bring a decent closure to the blood of the innocent that yet cry for justice by apologizing to the families of the bereaved, pay them compensation and immediately scrap the two illegal toll gates and erect a monument in eternal remembrance of those who were cut down unjustly. Nothing else will suffice.”
