A coalition of 70 civil society organizations, CSOs, under the umbrella of Campaign for Dignity in Governance, CDG, has assured Lagos Statue Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, BOS, of its acceptance of his invitation to participate in a Walk For Peace, to be led by the governor himself this month.
Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu in his speech to the people of Lagos on Tuesday, November 30, on the Lekki Tollgate incident, extended invitation to the youth and members of the civil society to take part in the match for peace.
The governor had said, “In December, I will be leading a WalkFor Peace, to herald the healing of our land. Let me use this occasion to extend an open invitation to our youths, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society groups, students and the media as well as other stakeholders to join me.”
In its acceptance speech, the National Convener of the coalition, Comrade Razaq Olokoba, said that the coalition would always be in the forefront of any initiative that bothers on peace, harmony, peaceful co-existence, security and development of the society, adding that, the Sanwo-Olu’s Walk for Peace squarely fits into the group’s area of jurisdiction.
Olokoba further stated that the coalition’s agreement to be part of the peace project is in appreciation of Sanwo-Olu’s humility in coming down to the level of the masses, which he considers vital to the growth of the society, referring to tone of the invitation thus, “Join me on this historic March for our dear Lagos. Nobody will build this city for us. Let us show the world who we are. We are Lagosians. A people of great renown, driven by the irrepressible spirit of Lagos.”
Having accepted the governor’s invitation, the coalition asserted that its members will fully participate in the walk and even mobilise en mass for the exercise, commending the governor for the novel initiative and commitment to the laudable process of politics of inclusiveness.
Against this background, Olokoba therefore urged all well-meaning people of Lagos as well of the residents to come out en masse on the day of the match for the benefit of the generality of the people, saying, “When there is problem, people should endeavour to rally round one another for solution and not blackmailing to aggravate the situation.”
He therefore expressed optimism that the latest initiative from Sanwo-Olu would further cement the cordial relationship that already exists between the governor’s administration and the good people of the state, praising him that he has been doing it and he would do it again to heal the wound of the crisis.
