Residents of Ekiti State have been told that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for the month of March will hold on Saturday, March 28.
This was contained in a statement from the office of the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo, made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, stressed that all residents are expected to clean their respective areas during the exercise.
While emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to participate in the cleaning exercise, particularly in view of the prevailing global pandemic, the statement warned that the State and Local Government Environmental Task Force on COVID-19 would also be on hand to monitor the exercise and enforce compliance.
Hon Agbeyo stressed that movement of vehicles, pedestrians and motorcyclists would, as usual, be restricted; cautioning that anybody caught would be prosecuted accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State government has directed environmental officers and relevant security agencies manning the borders of the state to thoroughly scrutinize people entering the state for possible infection of the Coronavirus and place suspected cases in isolation for further test, as part of efforts at curbing the spread of the virus.
Chairman of the state Environmental Task Force, Hon. Agbeyo, who made this known in Ado Ekiti, while speaking on a radio programme in Ado-Ekiti advised all and sundry to adhere strictly to government’s directives geared towards limiting the spread of the virus.
