The governor-elect of Cross River State, distinguished Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu, has sent a message of felicitation to Muslim faithful across the country, as they join the rest of the globe to celebrate the 2023 Eid-el-Fitri, to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Otu, in a goodwill message, called on Muslim Ummah to use the celebration to reflect deeply on the key lessons of Ramadan and endeavor to continue to put them into practice in their daily activities beyond this period.
The governor-elect said, “I wholeheartedly felicitate with our Muslim brethren in Nigeria and all over the world on the celebration of Eid-El-Fitri to mark the end of the holy month of prayers and abstinence. As you celebrate, may the abundance of God’s grace, blessings, goodness and love associated with the season remain with you and abide in your homes!
“It is important to, amidst the joy of the celebration, reflect and strive to sustain the basic teachings of Ramadan, which, among others, include sacrifice, self-discipline, uprightness, patience, kindness, forgiveness and good conduct.”
Senator Otu added that “we must see the Eid-El-Fitri celebration as a time to pray passionately for a secured, united and prosperous Nigeria, and equally seek God’s guidance for those of us who were elected for different positions in the just concluded 2023 elections, waiting to assume our respective offices from May 29, when we will begin a new political dispensation.”
He continued, “It is incumbent on Nigerians to unite for the peace and progress of the nation. It is only through a united front that we can effectively tackle the various challenges and problems bedeviling us at all levels of governance. This is why as we celebrate Eid-El-Fitri, we must be conscious of the need to give full support to the incoming administrations at the centre and in the states of the federation, in the interest of our dear country and the citizenry.”
Rejoicing with the members of the Muslim community in Cross River State on the occasion of Eid-El-Fitr, Otu thanked them for the unalloyed support they gave him in the gubernatorial election, where he had a landslide victory and emerged as the governor-elect.
