The atmosphere in Oke Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State was charged yesterday as unknown persons were reported to have machetted a native of the community in neighbouring Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The development created palpable tension in Oke Onigbin as youths embarked on a wild protest, making bonfires on the road linking the town with Ijara Isin community in the same local government, which was the way to Owode; the scene of the killing.

The deceased, Isah Bayo, said to be a commercial motor cyclist, was reported to be mercilessly matchetted to death by unknown assaillants, who left his body by the road side last weekend and no clue was found yet at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed that the “burning of tyres and blocking of Oke-Onigbin/Ijara road junction by some youths, was in protest against the macheting to death of one Isah Bayo, ‘M,’ age unknown, an Okada rider, by unknown men at Owode area of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.”

The Police added that “in the receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tuesday Assayomo, immediately dispatched teams of Policemen to the scene for possible arrest of the culprit/culprits for prosecution; however, investigation into the matter is ongoing.”

The Police added that with the intervention of the chairman of the local government, coupled with that of the security agencies, calm had been fully restored in the area, with the people going about their normal businesses without any fear of attack.

Okasanmi added that “CP Assayomo, while commiserating with the family of the deceased, assured the good people of Kwara State of the Command’s readiness to do everything within the law to keep the people of the state safe and secured.”
