The Director General, DG, of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, has given reasons on why the Directorate embarked on the training of 50 unemployed youths in sustainable agricultural farming in Cross River State.
The DG stressed that training the youths to be equipped with skills in agro-prenurship can make beneficiaries become self reliant and even grow to become employers of labour in agro-prenurship.
Declaring the training workshop open in Calabar, at the Conference Hall of the Federal Secretariat, yesterday, Nuhu-Fikpo, charged the trainees to be disciplined and not to forget the reason why they were given the opportunity to benefit from the programme.
At the three-day POST-SADTS training, using K-A-S-H model, organised by the Rural Employment Promotion, REP, the DG said, “At this juncture, I wish to inform you that this three-day training will be conducted by skillful professionals”
Represented by the Cross River State coordinator of the NDE, Mr. Udam Gabriel, the DG averred that the decision to equip unemployed youths with skills in the various fields of agriculture would help the beneficiaries set up their own agricultural businesses to reduce the escalating rate of unemployment, which had bedeviled the nation.
He added, “The professionals will train you on the rudiments of crop and animal production as well as guide you on various ways of developing business ideas, management of your businesses and formation of cooperative societies.
“The cooperative societies will enable you access bank facilities to finance your agricultural business.
“I urge you to exhibit a high level of discipline. I am delighted to welcome you on this occasion of the opening ceremony for the conduct of training of 50 unemployed youths on POST-SADTS 2023, which is taking place today.
“I urged you to be disciplined to ensure that the goals of the training is achieved.”
