A group of students union leaders in Cross River State, operating under the aegis of Students Leadership Forum of Cross River State Tertiary Institutions, have indicated interest in the ambition of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, giving reasons why they have chosen to support his ambition and ensure he emerges winner if the forthcoming governorship election of March 11.
The tertiary institutions students indicated this at the weekend during a press briefing with journalists at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre, State Housing Estate, Calabar.
Speaking on behalf of Cross River State higher institutions students, the President of Post Graduate Student Government of the University of Calabar, Unical, Comrade Edet Boniface, stated that by the students’ estimation, the governorship candidate of the ruling APC is the only one endowed with the potentials and qualities to lead the state as far as the 2023 governorship election is concerned.
The student union body maintained that after carefully looking at the profiles of candidates vying for the governorship seat, it’s was discovered that Senator Otu is the only candidate with the requisite capacity at the moment and his youth friendly attitude qualifies him as the only one for the plumb job.
“It is imperative and instructive at this point to mention that beyond the fact that Senator Otu is favoured by the argument of time, he is also the most student- and youth-friendly candidate.
He said, “He has greater antecedents compared to all other candidates.
“He also gave grants and scholarships to students and even employed many youths, talk less of his empowerment symbol, making all to define him as the author of empowerment.”
Earlier, the executive president of the Student Union Government of University of Calabar, Tiron Bassey, stressed that as a body, the truth is what they stand for and nothing else, stressing that truth, justice, equity and fairness must prevailed in all that they do.
The student union body stated that Senator Otu remains the only one who had stood by the students, both far and wide over time, stressing that 45,000 students of UNICAL have resolved to throw their weight solidly behind Senator Otu, adding that with God, Otu shall win the election.
Also speaking, the executive president , National Association of Cross River State Students, NACRISS, Comrade Akpeke Peter Adie, stated that Prince Otu is a life member of NACRISS worldwide.
The student union leader stated that the APC gubernatorial candidate has the support of all student leaders at various levels, stressing that this is unanimous.
