The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, has charged former appontees of of state government, who worked with the Power Ministry to return government vehicles officially allocated to them by the immediate past administration, so that activities of the ministry can function effectively.
The commissioner gave the charge during his engagement with officials of the state Government Vehicles Re-Covery Team, yesterday in Calabar.
He said that the official vehicles if not returned, would hinder the operations of governance.
Williams, who spoke shortly after his assumption of office stated that it was traditional and act of responsibility for government officials to hand over all property that belongs to the state government to appropriate quarters before exiting from office.
He said, “Without the vehicles, activities of government would move at snail speed. We need these vehicles to enable us function as a governent.
“I urged the team to expedite action in the recovery of the vehicles so that we can work well as we have to hit the ground running.”
Recall, that the Vehicle Recovery Team, set up by the state governor, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, was saddled with the task of retrieving official vehicles from former government office holders to aide the smooth execution of government duties by newly appointed government officials.
In his remarks, Leader of Vehicle Recovery Team, Emmanuel Abeng, assured that he and his team were ready to redoubled their effort towards ensuring that they retrieve most of the vehicles taken away by former appointees of government.
Abeng maintained that he and his team would not rest until the government vehicles were retrieved and handed over to government.
The commissioner subsequently convened a meeting with staff of the ministry to brainstorm on some crucial issues bothering the ministry.
In attendance at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Mr. Uffono Gabriel Attah; the leader of the Vehicle Recovery Team, Mr. Abeng and other members of the team, who gave a rousing welcome to the commissioner during his resumption to duty.
