The Cross River State Police Command has promised to take the war against armed banditry, kidnapping and other form of criminality to the creeks of Calabar waterways to clear the Calabar channel of threat from criminals, who terrorize people along the coastal regions of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, made the assertion during an on the spot assessment of police gunboats/inspection of facilities and dilapidated equipment used by the Marine Police for its operations along the Calabar waterways.

Represented by the state Commander of the Marine Police, SP Frank Mba, Akande promised to leave no stone unturned to ensure that those involved in criminality and insecurity are fished out and brought to justice.

Soliciting the corporation of all community residents residing along the coastal regions, Akande urged them not to hesitate to give useful information that will lead to the arrest and tracking down of criminals hiding in the creeks to police authority.

He said, “I mean furnish the police with information that can lead to apprehension of perpetrators of atrocities within the coastal regions of the state.

“As law enforcement agents, we are determined to achieve results. But then this result can only be achieved if only there is cooperation from members of the community.

“Policemen are not spirits, but human beings like you. We are ready to work with you people to make our communities and state save. Be free to come to us to give us information. At no point shall we leak out confidential information to any one. Your identity would not be disclose to any one.

“Police are here for you. Without the society, there won’t be any police. This is how its done in civilized world. It’s the citizens who provide confidential information to the police.”

The CP also police pledged to redoubled his policing effort to ensure that the state claims back its lost glory, and return to its former status of complete secured state some years back, when he served in the state as a young officer.

He also solicited for all hands to be on deck for his dream of making Cross River State safe to be actualized and subsequently make Cross River State one of the tourism destinations in Africa.

In his remarks while being conducting round the dilapidated facilities/equipment by the state Commander of Marine Police, SP Mba, the newly appointed Director General the of Cross River State Waterways, Mr. Bobby Ekpeyong, assured the people of the state of government’s readiness to smoke out criminal elements taking refuge in the creeks.

Ekpeyong promised to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those involved in criminality along the waterways are fished out and made to face the law of the land.

The DG therefore called on those in the coastal communities to join hands with the state government in the task of making the creeks communities peaceful and safe for the people.
