…As Akande Hands Over To Alhassan Aminu

The Cross River State newly appointed Police Commissioner, Alhassan Aminu on Wednesday in Calabar resumed duty as the 42nd Police Commissioner of the state, assuring residents of the state of his readiness ensure that peace is sustained in the state.
Outgoing Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sikiru Akande, on Wednesday in Calabar handed over to the new police helmsman Mr. Aminu to pilot affairs of the police in Cross River State.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, which took place at the state police headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar, Akande thanked residents of the state for the support and goodwill given to him by the people throughout the period which spent in the state.
He urged the people of the state to extend the same support which he enjoyed to his successor, stressing that the giant strides made in the state during his reign as the state police boss was as a result of the support and co-operation of the people, emphasising that without the peoples’ support his efforts would have been in futility.
The outgoing CP canvassed for same support to Aminu, stressing that six months ago, when he and his team came on board, it was quite challenging, but due to dint of hard work he and the team put in, their struggle yielded fruits, resulting in the laying of a solid foundation, which according to him, his successor would surely build on to accomplished his task.
Akande said, “I know his coming will bring goodness, sweetness and even more; please don’t drop our watch word, which is “when you see something, say something” and “the police will take appropriate and decisive action.”
Akande charged residents of the state to extend the support and good will he enjoyed during his stay in the state to his successor, so that he too can as well deliver the goods.
In his remarks, newly appointed CP, Aminu, assured the people of the state of his readiness to ensure that the peaceful atmosphere already created by his predecessor is sustained.
The new police boss promised to do everything within his reach and ensure that all officers live up to their expectation and constitutional responsibility of protecting live and property, maintaining law and order.
He added, “The outgoing CP has consolidated the area already, and sincerely speaking as a new person succeeding him, I am here with a plan and a mandate, but I must make use of his foundation and begin to build and grow from there. There is no future without considering the present.
“He has done his best at the time he was here, we will build on what he has done and consolidate on it, we will also make few adjustments.
“We will continue to team up and work with the good people of Cross River State. I will do my necessary best to make sure every officer carries out his duty, because when they do CrossRiverians will sleep with their two eyes closed.
“I want to assure the people of Cross River State that we will never rest on our oars, as we promise to give them the very best in the discharge of our duty as we come on board.”
