In other to stem the spread of COVID-19 pandemic amongst learners and stakeholders in public primary schools in Lagos State, the senator representing Lagos East senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, has donated COVID-19 safety materials to public primary schools in the state.

The materials were donated to the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB at the Multi- Purpose Hall, Maryland, Ikeja.

LASUBEB Executive Chairman, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King, while receiving the materials commended the distinguished senator for contributing to basic education in the state.

He stated that the safety materials donated will not only curb the spread of the infection of the virus in schools, but also reduce the spread of COVID-19 within the state.

Alawiye-King said, “The best way to reduce the spread of the virus, particularly in this second wave is to continue to abide by the safety guidelines.”

The LASUBEB boss used the opportunity to appeal to the distinguished senator to use every opportunity he has to push for the amendment of laws relevant to the development of basic education both at the federal and state level of legislation.

While handing over the safety materials, Senator Abiru stated that as leaders, the state cannot afford to fail young children, who are prone to infections.

He stated that it is important, as political leaders, to protect the vulnerable segment of the society against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, “It is suicidal to let down our guards at this point in time, we, as Tokunbo Abiru Constituency Team, TACT, are also complimenting the efforts of the government in maintaining the COVID-19 protocol.”

 

He also applauded Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for initiating the use of technology in upscaling the teachers to improve the learning outcomes in schools.

Adding that his team will be intervening by providing eye-glasses to teachers within his senatorial district in other to improve their vision, after a formal eye examination, Senator Abiru appreciated LASUBEB for impacting and contributing resourcefully to the advancement of basic education in the state.
