Christians have been called upon to exhibit the spirit of love and almsgiving as they celebrate this year’s Christmas in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The call was contained in a Christmas Message to Nigerians by Senator Anthony Agbo, a former parliamentarian, who represented Ebonyi North senatorial district in the Sixth Senate.

Agbo insisted that the whole essence of Christmas, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, would be defeated if there is no show of love among the people.

He siad, “The entire philosophy, message and responsibility that Christmas encapsulates to every believer and indeed the whole world is GIVING. Christmas is a clarion call on believers to imitate God by giving.

“God neither sleeps nor rests, but is busy round the clock, day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year, dispensing gifts to His children and the whole world; being gifts of love, life, health, riches, prosperity, promotion, etc.

“Whatever anybody has, comes from Him; and by giving to you, He expects you to also be a dispenser of His gifts to others.

“If you have much, give much to others, if you have little, give also to your neighbours from the little you have.”

Insisting that “everybody who is alive has something to give, Senator Agbo therefore called “on Christians in particular and Nigerians in general to respond to the spirit of Christmas by giving to their neighbours generously, selflessly and cheerfully, as a thanksgiving sacrifice unto God who gave all to us.”

He added, “Give to your neighbour love, affection, money, food, drink, respect, honour, protection, prayer, etc. Look for those in need and give to them. Don’t wait for them to come to you.

“We just passed through a fearful, terrible and most challenging year. Many didn’t live to see the end of it, but you did. Therefore, appreciate God by giving to your neighbour.

“Additionally, repent of your sins and give your life to Jesus Christ, for the purpose of your salvation.
Jesus Christ is Lord!”
