There is absolute calm at the campus of the Kano State University of Science and Technology, KUST, Wudil, as the institution’s management has rescinded its earlier decision to hike tuition fees in the institution.
Management of the university, in a press released signed by its head of information and public relations, Saidu Abdullahi Nayaya, said the decision to maintain the status quo on the matter of hike in fees was necessitated by exigency factors.
Thee statement said that the decision to suspend the hike in fees was arrived at by the school’s Senate at its 94th meeting held late last Thursday.
While welcoming the university community to the 2019/2020 academic session, the university urged students to focus on their academic works and also shun all acts that could lead to disruption of academic activities.
The KUST branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, had in an earlier statement signed by the duo of Muhammad Gaya and Murtala Muhammad, chairperson and secretary respectively, denounced the new fees imposed by the school management on the students.
Investigations revealed that following the retreat by the management of the institution, students, parents and activists could not conceal their sighs of relief.
Students at the Wudil main campus of the institution are going about their activities in orderly manner without rancour or acrimony.
