Abuja Central District’s tallest building, the uncompleted World Trade Centre, was on Monday gutted by fire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, however, witnesses said it might not be unconnected with electrical fault from the power source being used for the construction of the building.

Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan had launched the project, which was estimated to cost $1 billion, in September 2011, with 2013 set as the completion date.

The 24-floor WTC Tower 1, which topped out in 2015 is said to be the tallest residential building in Nigeria, while WTC Tower 2 is the tallest building in Abuja, standing at 120 metre (394 feet).

As at the time of filling in this report, fire fighters, who have been battling the fire are still struggling to put out the fire.
