The Borno State Police Command has debunked reports trending on some traditional and social media platforms that some political thugs suspected to be of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, attacked the convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, while he was in the state for political rally.

Recall that the spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign team, Dino Meleye, had alleged that during the attack which took place near the Shehu’s palace, about 74 people were hospitalized, while over 100 vehicles were destroyed.

But at a press conference held at the Borno State Police Command, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Shatambaya, said, “The PDP presidential rally which was held at the Ramat Square was conducted peacefully with no incidence of attack whatsoever.”

He insisted that Police and other security agencies were on ground from the airport to Shehu’s palace and the venue of the rally to ensure adequate law and order.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to inform the general public that the mischievous reports  from the social media that Atiku’s convoy were attacked was a fake news.

“It is worth to note that one Danladi Musa, aged 32 year old, who attempted to attack the convoy of Atiku along the airport road was arrested by the police with stones as exhibit.

“I want to urge members of the general public that the suspect is with us, and the Command is doing everything possible to arrest other suspects.”
