A frontline traditional ruler in Ose Local Government of Ondo State, His Royal Highness, Oba Israel Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon, has been shot dead by armed bandits as he returned from a meeting with other traditional rulers in Akure, the state capital.

A source confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday, at Elegbeka community along the Ifon-Benin Highway.

The monarch was rushed to the Federal medical Centre, Owo, where he died following the gunshots he sustained during the attack.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Tee Leo-Ikoro described the incident as sad and very unfortunate, revealing that the bandits also kidnapped two persons in the convoy after shooting the monarch.

He revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, has directed all police divisions in the area to swing into action and ensure that the bandits are brought to book.

Leo-Ikoro promised that police personnel would work with in tandem with other security agencies to apprehend the bandits and secure the release of the victims.
