Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade, on Tuesday inaugurated the former senator representing Cross River North senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Stephen Odey, as the Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, CRSUBEB.

Odey’s inauguration came up after the state governor re-appointed him as Chairman of CRSUBEB.

Odey had in the past served as the state SUBEB chairman until he left the office to serve his father land in another capacity as senator and participated in a by-election, followed ng the demise of the former senator representing the zone, Rose Oko, which catapulted him to represent his constituency (Cross River North senatorial district) as senator, until the court asked him to vacate the seat for his former political ally, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, who is now the senator representing the North senatorial district.

Senator Odey flanked by members of the CRSUBEB after his inauguration as Chairman. On his right is the Cross River State Commissioner for Quality Education, Dr Godwin Amanke.

In his post-inaugural speech, Odey pledged his commitment towards effective service delivery, promising to discharge his duties without fear or favour.

He pledged to do everything within his reach to ensure that he brings improvement to the basic education sub-sector in the state.

Odey at the inauguration ceremony which took place at the conference hall of the Cross River State Ministry of Education, Calabar, assured the people of the state of his willingness to give his very best to take the sector to an enviable height.

While expressing gratitude to Governor Ayade for finding him worthy and reappointing him as SUBEB Chairman, Odey appealed for the commissioner’s support to enable him succeed in the task ahead.

Representing the state governor, the state Commissioner for Quality Education, Dr. Godwin Amanke, expressed confidence in the capabilities of Senator Odey, stressing that since Odey is given an appointment in a familiar terrain, he is sure that much would be achieved, even as he called for support from all axis to enable the board chairman achieve his goal.

He said, “This is familiar territory, you are back to continue the good work you have started. We have no doubt in your capacity. We have no doubt in your proficiency. We know you are going to discharge your duties efficiently.”

In her vote of thanks, the Director of Administration, Ministry of Quality Education, Mrs Elizabeth Etim, said the ministry will continue to work with the board to achieve its goals for the betterment of education in the state.
