All is now set for the Cross River State chapter and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to embark on solidarity rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, against the planned protests in Calabar scheduled for August 1, 2024.
Cross River APC chairman, Alphonsus Ogar, stated this at a media parley which took place on Wednesday in Calabar.
He said that the APC decided to embark on the rally so as to report those who will come out to take part in the street protest of August 1, 2024.
Accusing the opposition of plotting to topple the government, Ogah stated that even though the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria grants rights to citizens to embark on peaceful protest, same constitution also forbids people from constituting nuisance.
He said, “Some people have conspired to topple the government, of course, it’s only a tree that sees danger and remain at same point.
“If there is hunger, let the people come together and dialogue. If you do it tomorrow without causing violence, we don’t have problem with that.
“We do not want calamity that befell us four years ago to repeat itself. It will be better for us to dialogue with aggrieved individuals than to engage in violent protest.”
