A visually impaired varsity lecturer and professor of broadcasting and development communication, Prof. Jacob Agba, has promised to go into journalism practice again and again, even if he die and reincarnates in the next generation to come.
The academic don made the remarks while answering questions from journalists in Calabar yesterday, shortly after the launching of his book, titled: ‘Broadcast Principles, Concepts, Practices,’ which took place on Saturday at CRUTECH auditorium.
He said, “I think the angel that was sent by God to deliver a message to Mary about the birth of Jesus Christ was a journalist, because the way he communicated the message and the way Mary understood the message, showed that he was a reporter.”
The varsity lecturer, drawing inference from the Holy Bible from the book of Luke 1:26-38, where the angel of God was sent to deliver a message to Mary about the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth said that he feels the angel was a journalist, given the way and manner that the message was delivered.
He reiterated on why he choose to publish the new book on broadcast principles, stressing that it was a way of contributing his quota towards national development.
The 61-year-old staunch champion for inclusive education, who is a former Dean, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, stressed that publishing a new book on broadcasting is one of the ways of giving back to the society, which he has also benefitted from.
The author averred that coming up with this latest publication is a way of giving a boost to the book and media industry.
Agba, who is an author of three other mass media-related books, with more than 40 media-related articles, published in reputable local and international journals said, “The aim of writing this book is to highlight major principles, concepts and practices in professional radio and television broadcasting, as well as webcasting.
“No doubt, this book would be a valuable instrument to students of broadcasting, researchers and broadcast media practitioners.”
He charged communication students in the nation’s tertiary institutions to make theur numerous contributions towards the development of the sector, adding that the sector remains one of the most critical sector as far as life is concerned.
He added, “Mass communication is a multi-disciplinary or interdisciplinary discipline. You find people from different walks of life featuring there.”
When asked if he would love to become a journalist and communicator, assuming he does reincarnates on earth again he said, “I’ am always proud to be a journalist.
