Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, began their 2021 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, campaign with a stunning 1-0 win over the Mohammed Sallah-led Pharoahs of Egypt on Tuesday evening.

The Super Eagles, who were in an impressive form against the Pharaohs, who came into the tournament as top favourites and the
Austine Eguavoen’s men dominated the game from the referee’s whistle and took the lead in the first half.

On the dot of the 30th minute, Joe Aribo’s header found Kelechi Iheanacho inside the box and he took two touches before volleying the ball into the net for Nigeria’s and only goal of the pulsating match.

Though, the Nigerian team missed a couple of chances to double their lead, especially, in the second half, they now top Group D with three points.

Sudan and Guinea-Bissau play each other in the second Group D fixture for Tuesday.
