Suspended head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, and six others have been slammed with an eight-count charge bordering on drug trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

In a charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, the defendants, which include: Sunday J. Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu, who are police officers and Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, two alleged drug traffickers, who were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the NDLEA accused Kyari and his co-accused of conspiracy, obstruction and dealing in cocaine worth 17.55 kilograms.

The charge filed by NDLEA’s Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Joseph Sunday, NDLEA director of prosecution and legal services, before a Federal High Court in Abuja, Kyari and four other police officers were alleged to have unlawfully tampered with 21.25 kilogram worth of cocaine.

Umeibe and Ezenwanne were accused of conspiring with others at large to import 21.35 kilogram of cocaine into the country.

Meanwhile, the Attorney-General and minister of jUstice, Abubakar Malami, has approved the process for Kyari’s extradition to the United States to answer allegations bordering on conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, and identity theft.

The AGF filed an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja for Kyari’s extradition.

The application, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022, was filed under the Extradition Act.
