The Nasarawa State Pension Bureau on Friday commenced the payment of gratuity to about 500 retired civil servants from the payroll of the state government with N500 million released recently by the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, to the bureau.
Director General of the state Pension Bureau, Abdullahi Sani Osaze, flagged off the payment in Lafia, the state capital, which is electronically.
Speaking to journalists shortly after flagging-off the payment, the Director General said, “Following the release of N500 million by Governor Abdullahi Sule as part of gratuity payment, we are starting the e-payment exercise in batches until we finish.
Commending the governor for priotising the welfare of retirees in the state, he appealed to the retirees for continuous support and cooperation with the administration of Governor Sule.
He said, “We are starting the payment exercise today. We are paying in batches until we finish and the first batch is up to 500 retirees.”
Secretary of Nasarawa State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ibrahim Usman, expressed appreciation to Governor Sule for keeping to his promise.
Usman, while promising the union’s continuous support to the present administration, appealed to the state government to sustain the payment.
