Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State’s branch of the Rotary Club International has distributed palliatives, worth over N1.2 million, to no fewer than 500 residents of seven communities in the state.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the distribution of the palliatives, tagged: ‘COVID-19 Rotary Community Intervention,’ took place at different locations in the state.
North West Coordinator of the Rotary Club International, Barr. Nureini Jimoh, while presenting the food items to the residents of Sauna-Kawaji in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano, said the gesture was to assist those in need.
He added that the aim was to cushion the effects of the hardship they experience and occasioned by the COVID-19 lockdown in the state in particular, and the country in general.
Jimoh also said that the donation of the food items, which include rice, sugar, millet among other things, was necessary as part of the club’s corporate social responsibility to their host communities.
He said, “At this trying period, there is the need for individuals and corporate bodies to assist those in need in our communities, so that to we can make them feel among.
“We are also advising you to always abide by the social distancing rule and the use of facemask order. And you are advised to avoid any form of visitation so that you avoid the spread of the disease.”
He called on beneficiaries to make proper use of the items, even as he solicited for their support, especially by presenting their children for polio immunisation.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the village head of Sauna-Kawaji, Malam Umar Adamu commended the Rotary Club for such gesture; saying that it came at a time when people are stranded at home and are in dire need of such assistance to reduce the hardship caused by the lockdown.
He assured the Rotary Club that he will do everything within his ability to ensure that the people continue to give them all the necessary support, especially on the issue of polio immunisation.
