Kano State has recorded five new COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the number of deaths from the pandemic in the state to 26.
The North Western state has recorded the second highest COVID-19 cases across the federation with 602 cases, behind Lagos State which has 1,845 cases. It has the highest COVID-19 cases in the Northern part of the country.
26 of the 602 cases were recorded on Sunday, May 10, 2020, according to the daily update by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
Also on Sunday, the state Ministry of Health disclosed that five people died as a result of COVID-19-related complications; just as 18 persons were discharged from medical care after recovery.
The state also had eight new cases on Sunday; it has the second highest fatalities in the country, behind Lagos State with 33. Other states with double digit fatalities are: Borno, 16; Sokoto, 12; and Katsina 10.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed a total lockdown of Kano State on April 27 for a period of two weeks, following the spike in coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the state.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s total COVID-19 cases as at Sunday, May 10, stood at 4,399 recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. 778 persons have so far been discharged after recovery from the virus, while fatalities are 143.
