Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, Governor Bassey Otu, yesterday expressed his readiness to maintain robust synergy with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR, with a view to ensuring quality healthcare delivery services in the state.
Otu made this known when he received the Head of Field Office, UNHCR in Calabar, Mr. Mohammed Nafion, and his team yesterday in Calabar.
Represented by the state deputy governor, Rt. Hon Peter Odey, Otu hailed the UNHCR for its numerous contributions towards health care delivery services in the state.
Otu said, “I am particularly impressed by your enduring commitment towards improving the well-being of our people through strategic intervention in terms of equipment and capacity building.
“This huge gesture is highly commendable. As government, we will do everything necessary on our part to sustain this partnership for mutual benefits in the overall interest of our people by creating enabling environment for the collaborations to thrive in the state.”
Earlier, Head of Field Office, Mr. Nafion, expressed delight for the warmth reception given to the team, notwithstanding the impromptu request, stressing that the reception and willingness goes a long way to show the mutual relationship that exist.
The UNHCR officials thanked the state government for its relentless support to UNHCR activities in the state and to used the opportunity to formally flag-off the distribution of oxygen concentration machines to those with medical challenge arising from breathing difficulty.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, expressed satisfaction with the standard of model medical facilities and quality of healthcare provided by UNHCR across the state, describing it as a reflection of the noble intention of UNHCR for the state
Ayuk stressed that the oxygen concentration machines donated will be distributed for use by health care centers that were in dire need of the equipment.
