The Katsina State government on Wednesday recorded first suspected case of coronavirus, COVID 19, in the state.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary, PS, in the state Ministry of Health, Dr Kabir Mustapha, to newsmen in Katsina.

The PS added that the patient, who just returned from Malaysia, developed some symptoms, which warranted further investigations, saying that the patient is currently is self-isolation.

Mustapha said his samples had been taken and the results being expected by tomorrow. He added that contact tracing will begin as soon as the results were turned in, adding that state Ministry of Health has not only taken all precautionary measures, but is also closely working with the National Centre for Disease Control, NCD,) on the matter.

Disclosing that the patient’s history of travel was a high index and that the symptoms reported at the clinic prompted actions, Mustapha said that since the arrival of the case in the state, the patient had resulted to personal protection of using face mark and self-isolation.

He further urged people in the host community of Dutsinma Town to be cautious of their movements and gathering, just as he also advised them to feel free to seek medical attention as all precautionary measures were in place to provide support.

The new case in Katsina brings to six the number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Nigeria in the last 24 hours.
