Sensitive materials such as ballot papers and result sheets for Saturday’s bye-election in Patigi state constituency of the Kwara State House of Assembly were moved from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on Thursday and dispatched to Patigi.
The materials, which had earlier been kept in the custody of the CBN, Ilorin when they arrived on Tuesday evening, were heavily escorted by security agents.
The materials were inspected at the apex bank in the presence of security agencies, representatives of political parties and journalists, as well as INEC REC, for Osun State, Mr Segun Agbaje, before they were dispatched by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mallam Attahiru Madami in the presence of security agencies.
In a chat with journalists, Madami said the materials would be dispatched to the 10 Registration Areas Centers, RACs, on the eve of the election; reiterating the preparedness of INEC to conduct free, fair, credible and acceptable bye-election on Saturday.
INEC Head of Electoral Operations in the state, Mr Shehu Baba, told journalists that the total number of ballot papers dispatched for the 10 wards were 52,233 for all the registration areas of Patigi constituency.
