In fulfilment of its resolve to provide qualitative healthcare to residents of the state, the Ondo State government has handed over Medicus International, 100 hectares of land for the building of Sunshine Medical City.

Conducting the Medicus team round the parcel of land situated along the Akure-Owo express way, the Special Adviser on Health to the governor, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, said the Sunshine Medical City will be a medical tourism arena where all ailments can be treated.

He explained that the medical city is intended to provide medicare for complex cases for which many Nigerians have had to travel abroad for treatment.

While revealing that Medicus International will be investing $1.1 billion on the Sunshine Medical City, making it a world class institution for which residents of the state has so much to gain, Dr Adeyeye said over 10,000 job opportunities will be provided for residents of the state, as the project will also open up the state socio-economically.

Medicus International Team Lead, Chief Oludare Bello, said the provision of the land was a fulfillment of the promise made by the state government, in November 2019, when the project was conceived and the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed.

While expressing appreciation to the government for the confidence and trust reposed in Medicus International, which he said has elicited the political will the project is enjoying, Chief Bello explained that the state is the major shareholder in the Sunshine Medical City project, which when completed will be second to none in the country.

The Team Lead however demanded the provision of the Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, and other titles, which he said will boost the confidence of investors to invest their funds in the project.

After inspection of the parcel of land, the C of O of the land was handed over to Medicus International by Dr Adeyeye in company of other top government functionaries, who are members of government team.

Members of the government team include: the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing, the Surveyor General and representation from relevant government agencies.

In a related development, the Medicus International and state government teams met to iron out issues that will expedite the takeoff of the Sunshine City.

Medicus International Team Lead, Chief Bello, thanked the state government for the goodwill enjoyed by Medicus International, adding that the Medical City project has come to stay, as so much underground work had been undertaken since the MoU was signed.

These he enumerated to include: the physical planning, sourcing for financiers and other spade works to enable Medicus move to sight in no distant time.

Explaining that the project will warehouse an 800-bed world-class hospital, 250 housing units, Five and Three-Star Hotels, Recuperation Center and other social amenities, Chief Bello added that that part of the socioeconomic benefit of the project is that Nigerians who will be part of the medical team will have the opportunity of being trained in Germany.

Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, who represented the governor at the meeting, appreciated the civil servants in the government team and Medicus international for the fruitful deliberation, even as he assured of government’s commitment to do the needful to ensure that the project becomes a reality as soon as possible.
