No fewer than seven people lost their lives in a road accident that occurred at Ayorunbo Junction, Ilesha-Akure express way, Osu, in Osun State.
Confirming the accident, the Osun State Police Command said the accident, which occurred around 5:30 am on Wednesday, involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Bus with 15 passengers on board, which ran into a stationary truck.
Eight others, who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife for treatment.
Speaking on the auto crash, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, advised motorists to always adhere to safety measures while driving; even as he decried preventable human and material losses that usually accompany road accidents.
He restated the readiness of the police to keep roads across the state safer through intensified patrol and by ensuring that road users comply with safety measures.
Kokumo, who spoke through Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Folasade Odoro, said, “A Mercedes Benz Sprinter Bus with the registration number NEN 461 ZD, with 15 passengers on board ran into a stationary truck with the registration number NOS FST 701 XW at Ayorunbo Junction on Ilesha/Akure expressway.
“In the accident, seven passengers were confirmed dead by a medical doctor while eight others were taken to OAUTHC, Ile Ife for treatment.
“The remains of the victims have been deposited for post mortem in the same hospital.”
