About 7,800 university graduates have applied for the Federal Government’s 774,000 Public Works Programme jobs in Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State chairman of the public works programme, Hon Kassim Mohammed, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Lafia, the state capiral.
Kassim said, “I received applications from graduates in the 13 local government areas of the state, and majority of them are university graduates, HND, NCE and Diploma holders.
“We are still in the recruitment process, which is at the stage of collection/selection process. We were instructed to employ 200 graduates in each Local Government Area of the state.”
He continued that in each of the local government, they shared 1,000 forms, out of which some had 400 graduates, even as he added that most of the labourers met on the site during the street to street recruitment of the programme were graduates.
He said, “Most of the street hawkers were graduates. Most of the artisans we shared forms to were also graduates. That is the level of unemployment in the country.
“For us in Nasarawa State, the recruitment process is peaceful and nobody is intervening in what we are doing, we know the number of forms we shared, we are following it strictly to ensure that we do not have complications.”
