The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23-year-old Ikenna James, for allegedly raping and killing his 29-year-old neighbour, Oluwatosin Adefisayo, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

A press release, tagged: AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/970/7/03/2022, by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, states that the suspect, along with a friend, now at large, broke into the apartment of the victim in the night, where she was raped and strangulated to death.

The statement revealed, “The suspect, who lives in the same compound with the deceased, bargained with his friend, who is now at large, and they broke into the apartment of the deceased in the night through the ceiling while she was fast asleep, raped her before they strangled her.

“The neighbours, including the parents of the suspect woke up in the morning only to discover that the apartment of the deceased had been broken into.

“The neighbours there and then invited the local vigilante to the scene, and while at the scene, Ikenna was seen coming down from the ceiling where he has been hiding after the dastardly act.

“He was quickly held down while distress call was made to the police at the Ogijo Divisional Police Headquarters.”

The release added that the DPO, Ogijo Division, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, led his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, Ikenna James, whose partner in crime has ran away, confessed to the commission of the crime. He also informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because they discovered that she recognised them.

“Ikenna’s parents, who described his arrest as good ridiance to bad rubbish, said they had already given up on him as he is the black sheep of the family.

“They also appealed to authority concerned to ensure that appropriate punishment is awarded to him,” the Ogun Police image-maker further stated.

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, for further investigation.

DSP Oyeyemi added that the police commissioner had also directed that Ikenna’s accomplice must be hunted for and brought to book.
