…As LP Denies Merging With Other Parties

Less than 24 hours to the kick off of this year’s general elections, a peace accord, arranged by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, involving 14 out of the known 17 political parties jostling to participate in the elections, was signed.

The peace agreement witnessed the conspicuous absence of the Labour Party, LP; African Action Congress, AAC; and the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.

This is just as the LP ASLO debunked the news making the rounds about merger arrangements among the political parties in Kwara State.

Dispelling any talk of any merger arrangement with any other political parties, the LP, at a press conference, denied the insinuation of its collapsing its structures in the state into any other political party.

Kwara State LP chairman, Rotimi, at the press conference dispelling rumours of any collaboration with any other political party, ahead of the 2023 election.

The three conspicuously absent parties at the peace accord signing are not fielding candidates for the governorship elections in the state; while the All Progressives Congress, APC; the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, among other parties were in attendance.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, the state, Mallam Garba Attahiru Madami, at the peace meeting had commended the political parties for attending the peace accord signing event, urging them to abide by the content of the peace document to the letter.

Speaking at the LP press conference debunking plans to merge with some parties for the election, its atate
Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Rotimi, dismissed the rumours that LP plans to collapse its structure for another political party ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election.

Rotimi said that the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is still much in the race, saying, “Our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is in the race to win and restructure the country, he has been moving around the country to canvas for votes. He was in Offa, Kwara State, two weeks ago and from there to Osun state.

“We remain intact as one indivisible entity and optimistic about our chance to emerge victorious in the forthcoming election. We urge Nigerians and the electorate to ignore the rumour of LP collapsing its structures for another party and that our presidential candidate is stepping down for another candidate.”

Rotimi cautioned against any unauthorized information from any individual or group going round to spread falsehood of any kind; even as he warned that the party would take legal actions against such persons or group suspected of being behind the fake news about the party.
